Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has warned elected United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders to brace for intense competition ahead of the 2027 General Election, revealing that thousands of aspirants have already expressed interest in contesting various elective positions on the party’s ticket.
Speaking on Monday at State House, Nairobi, during a UDA National Governing Council meeting convened by party leader President William Ruto, Mudavadi said applications submitted through the party’s portal show growing interest across all levels.
He said 640 Kenyans have so far expressed interest in Member of Parliament positions, 64 in governor seats, 98 for Senate, 138 for Woman Representative and 2,863 for Member of County Assembly positions.
“By today a total of 3,803 Kenyans have expressed interest and the party portal is still open. Most likely this number will rise to a double digit or even three times when we convene here at State House for the aspirants forum in a couple of weeks. If any one of you thought that there is no competition, statistics are showing there is stiff competition for the UDA ticket,” Mudavadi said.
The Prime CS said the party has scheduled a key engagement forum on February 4, 2026, where UDA organs and leadership will interact with aspirants ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
Using the MCA position as an example, Mudavadi warned sitting leaders against complacency, saying competition at the grassroots level would be fierce during party polling centre elections expected in March.
“From these data, you cannot afford to lie low as an envelope when the party polling centre elections take place in March this year. These numbers clearly mean competition,” he said, urging elected leaders to mobilise aggressively at ward level to register more party members and build strong campaign teams.
“You have no option but to go back to the polling centres and mobilise thoroughly so that you get more people registered under UDA and have a team that will win. That is what will give you an advantage over your competitors,” he added.
Mudavadi also called on UDA leaders to continue supporting President Ruto.
He said President Ruto’s leadership has positioned Kenya as an anchor state in diplomacy and international relations, helping establish the country as a regional business and investment hub, a trusted mediator, and a supporter of regional and global peace initiatives.
Mudavadi noted that Kenya is set to host several international conferences this year, including the Africa–France Summit in May.
